Urban / Suburban Project
For four years Cynthia Gehrie, has video documented a collaboration between teachers and students from Lake View high school and the Glenbrook high school's Academy. Students meet 8 times to co-write plays, developed through a series of improvisation experiences. Several videos were produced from this archival data including:
"Breaking the Invisible Walls" -- a video providing an overview of the project during an 8 week session.
"Writing From Experience" -- outlines the philosophy of the source of dramatic story with examples from student writing sessions.
"Writing Through Improvisation"-- offers instruction on the development of story through improvisation and illustrates the importance of keeping students close to their own experience as the source of their writing sense.
